La mélancolie cyanotypes

Recent sunshine has aided the development of some new image making using cyanotype treated cotton fabric with its rich deep ultramarine hues. The photograms collectively connect with a sense of loss, of passing and quiet melancholy that can be glimpsed lying just under the surface of contemporary experience. This is not so much about sorrowful songs but more the realisation of the existence of a new reality: the ‘new normal’. Ideas and images develop against the backdrop of a contemplative blues tinted landscape.

We Fade – cyanotype on cotton fabric: an inevitable metamorphosis from youth to decay, played by evergreen magnolia leaves.
Les Vagues – cyanotype on cotton fabric: the waves continuously roll in on a tide. They have done so long before we arrived, rolling constantly throughout life, and will continue long after we depart.
Les fleurs du silence – cyanotype on cotton fabric: A lone stem in death still holds on to the memory of tiny flowers against a backdrop of bare inanimate stems that fade into the silent shadows.
