Folkestone Arts Collective (FAC)

SALT is a new festival about the sea and the environment co-curated by Folkestone Quarterhouse, Folkestone Fringe and Karen Shepherdson of Canterbury Christ Church University. Talks, workshops, installations, shows and exhibitions will explore the unique coastal environment of this region, the communities it sustains and consider what the future might hold.

As the days get shorter and the evenings darker, the Light Before Christmas prepares to illuminate Folkestone’s Creative Quarter…

On Saturday the 20th December there will be an illuminated procession through the streets of Folkestone, down into the harbour market square for a lively arts market where illuminations, music and performances will entertain you on this festive evening. The artist made trees will gather into an assorted forest beneath an illuminated array of paper lanterns in and around the harbour market square. Visitors will also be invited to light up a large metal tree sculpture on the evening with small magnetic lights to raise money for charity. The event will then conclude with Fireworks at 8.15pm.

About my studio

My images often develop out of quick sketches, inspired by many things such as a dream, a feeling, something suddenly remembered, a song, or a particular experience. With a palette of diverse figurative elements, I explore emotional responses to life, colour, pattern and language.

My work creates a juxtaposition of dreams, realities and sensations, fleeting moments from life inspired by my own experiences. I explore a sense of empathy for existing across different places and times, examining personal sensations of deja-vu, while moving through times, locations, and states of being, without a fixed linear chronology.

My artwork has been commissioned and represented in various publications, with solo and group exhibitions showing in the UK, France, Holland, Spain, Germany, Italy, Canada and the USA.
